一種　　此品人家多く栽（うへ）て藩籬（かき）#1となす樹（しゆ）高（たか）
　　　　さ八九尺に至（いた）る樹皮前条と同し旧茎（ふるくき）
　　　　新茎（しんけい）ともに棘（とけ）多（おほく）して葉をとるに甚 害（かい）
　　　　あり春月葉を生す形前条に似て少く
　　　　小（ちい）さし花実も又前条とをなし

現代語訳

【右丁】

一種　　この品は人家で多く栽培されて垣根とされる。樹の高さは八、九尺（約240〜270cm）に達する。樹皮は前条と同じである。古い茎・新しい茎ともに棘が多く、葉を採るのに甚だ差し障りがある。春に葉を生じる。形は前条に似るが、やや小さい。花・実もまた前条と同様である。

【Right folio】

*A variant:* This variety is widely cultivated at private residences and used as hedging. The tree reaches a height of eight or nine *shaku* (approximately 240–270 cm). The bark is the same as in the preceding entry. Both old and new stems bear numerous thorns, which make harvesting the leaves quite troublesome. Leaves emerge in spring. Their form resembles that of the preceding entry, but they are somewhat smaller. The flowers and fruits are likewise the same as in the preceding entry.
