卅八 太平（たいへい）でんがく 一間（いつけん）方（よはう）の大炉（おほひばち）をこしらへ炭火（すみび）を

未曽（みそ）をでんがくにぬり新（あたら）しき畳（たゝみ）を四でう
用意（ようい）し其（その）うちに密（ひし）とでんがくをつき刺（さし）大（おほ）
炉（ひばち）のぐるりへたてるなり尤（もつと）も田楽（でんがく）は火より
二尺四五寸上にあるやうに刺（さす）なり万民（ばんみん）腹（はら）を
鼓（こ）して楽（たの）しみかくいろ〳〵の趣向（しゆかう）をな
して飲食（のみくらふ）も治（おさま）る御代（みよ）のためしなるべし

現代語訳
三十八 太平田楽 一間四方の大火鉢を作り、炭火を一杯に燃え盛らせ、田楽串の尾を尖らせて味噌を田楽に塗り、新しい畳を四畳用意し、その中に密に田楽を突き刺して大火鉢の周りに立てる。もっとも田楽は火より二尺四、五寸上にあるように刺す。万民が腹を満たして楽しみ、このようにいろいろな趣向をなして飲食も豊かな治まる御世の証であろう。万歳々々万々歳。

Thirty-eight: Taihei Dengaku Prepare a large brazier measuring one ken square, fill it with blazing charcoal fire, sharpen the ends of dengaku skewers, coat the dengaku with miso, prepare four new tatami mats, and densely stick the dengaku skewers into them, standing them around the large brazier. The dengaku should be positioned about 2 shaku 4-5 sun above the fire. All people fill their bellies and enjoy themselves - this variety of entertainment and abundant food and drink is proof of a peaceful reign. Long live! Long live! Ten thousand years!
