一先月十四日彦右衛門俄兄弥治右衛門方へ
参ちんひ之木伐取度旨申出候所
弥治右衛門伊七を相招彦右衛門ちんひ之
木伐取度段願呉候様申出候然共
貴殿方ニ而ハ致如何候哉と尋候間

地浅之高土手ニ御座候得ハ竜蔵
私両家之土持根張ニ茂相成候
大木之事ニ候得ハ伐取儀迷惑ニ
存候併役人衆御立会御見分之
上危義ニ候ハバ各方江御頼奉願上
伐取申度私共見受候処俄ニ出
来候疵茂相見得不申候得与御見
分可被下与挨拶仕候処私方江一向
否之返事茂無之彦右衛門伊七与
両願ニ取繕偽を奉願候始末

恐れながら内々に詳細を申し上げたく
口上書
一、先月十四日、彦右衛門が急に兄の弥治右衛門方へ
参り、椿の木を伐採したい旨を申し出たところ、
弥治右衛門は伊七を呼び寄せ、彦右衛門が椿の
木を伐採したいと願い出ているが頼む、と申し出た。しかし
貴殿方ではいかがなものかと尋ねたところ、
風の激しい場所なので防風にもなり、特に
地盤の浅い高い土手にございますので、竜蔵と
私の両家の土留めや根張りにもなっている
大木のことですので、伐採することは迷惑に
存じます。ただし役人衆のお立会いでご見分の
上、危険なことでしたら皆様方にお頼み申し上げ
伐採いたしたく、私どもが見受けるところ急に出
来た傷も見当たりませんので、ご見
分いただきたいと挨拶いたしましたところ、私方へ一向に
否定の返事もなく、彦右衛門と伊七の
両名の願いに取り繕い偽りを願い出る始末、
不埒至極残念に存じております。しかるに

1. On the 14th of last month, Hikouemon suddenly came to his elder brother Yajirouemon's place and requested to cut down a camellia tree. Yajirouemon called Ishichi and told him that Hikouemon wished to cut down the camellia tree and asked for his cooperation. However, when I inquired whether this would be acceptable to your household, I replied that since it is a place with fierce winds, the tree serves as a windbreak, and particularly since it stands on a high embankment with shallow soil, it serves as soil retention and root support for both Ryuuzou's and my households. Being a large tree, I find its removal troublesome. However, if it proves dangerous upon inspection by officials in attendance, I would like to request all parties to allow its removal. As I observed no newly formed damage, I requested an inspection. Despite my courteous response, there was no negative reply to my household, yet both Hikouemon and Ishichi contrived to submit a false petition together. This is extremely improper and regrettable.
