茶席挿花集出

『茶席挿花集』出
　　大山蓮花　天女花

　　　　　玉蓮花を大山蓮花とするのは誤りである。玉蓮花は木蘭（モクレンゲ）
　　　　　である。『地錦抄』では玉蓮花の項に木蘭花と大山蓮花を
　　　　　別に掲載している。大山蓮花は木蘭の一種であるが別種であり、大和国
　　　　　（奈良）から産する。大峯より出るため「大山」の名を得た。花は夏に開くため、木
　　　　　蘭の別種であることは明らかである。辛夷の類は多くはみな春に開花するが、
　　　　　一種、花の中の蕊が紫色のものがある。（これを）園中に植えている。

The "Chikinsho" states:
　　Oyama-renge (大山蓮花)

The "Gunsho" states:
　　Gyokurenge (玉蓮花)　Japanese name: Ooyamarenge (をゝやまれんけ)

From the "Chaseki Sōkashū":
　　Oyama-renge (大山蓮花)　Tennyo-bana (天女花)

　　　　　To equate the Gyokurenge with the Oyama-renge is incorrect. The Gyokurenge is
　　　　　the Mokurenge (木蘭, Chinese magnolia). In the "Chikinsho," the Mokurenge
　　　　　and the Oyama-renge are listed separately under the Gyokurenge entry.
　　　　　The Oyama-renge is a variety of Mokurenge, but is a distinct species that
　　　　　originates from Yamato Province (present-day Nara). It takes its name "Oyama"
　　　　　(Great Mountain) from Mount Ōmine, where it grows. Since its flowers bloom in
　　　　　summer, it is clearly a separate variety from the Mokurenge. Most plants of the
　　　　　Kobushi (辛夷) family bloom in spring; however, there is one variety in which
　　　　　the stamens within the flower are purple. (This one) is planted in the garden.
