現代語訳
【ギンリョウソウ、ナンバンギセル】
和漢三才図会の山草類に言う：
草蓯蓉（そうじゅよう） 《別名：列当（つちあけび） 栗当｜花蓯蓉》
◦《別名：幽霊草｜｜つゆざえもん》
私が言うには：
別にチクバソウと呼ばれるものがあり、これは草蓯蓉と呼ばれるものである。
またナンバンギセルと呼ばれるものもあり、これは草蓯蓉の一種である。
本草綱目に言うには、草蓯蓉は晩春に茎を出し、茎は円く白色で、その根は肉蓯蓉に
似ているという。白色というのは、これを写したものである。肉蓯蓉は
キツネノフクロの類である。

The Wakan Sansai Zue (Japanese-Chinese Encyclopedia) states in its section on mountain plants:
Grass Cistanche (sōjuyō) 《Alternative names: Orobanche (tsuchi-akebi), Kuraitō | Flower Cistanche》
◦《Alternative names: Ghost plant | | Tsuyuzaemon》
I say:
There is separately what is called Chikubasō, which is what is called grass cistanche.
There is also what is called Nanban-kiseru, which is a type of grass cistanche.
According to the Bencao Gangmu (Compendium of Materia Medica), grass cistanche sends up stems in late spring, the stems are round and white in color, and its roots resemble those of flesh cistanche. The white color refers to what has been depicted here. Flesh cistanche belongs to the Cynomorium family.

Small Qin Wang plant

The Chikinsho states:
Turtle shell plant (kikkōsō) 《Alternative names: ◦Ichiyakusō ◦Suzufurirannoaoi》
Because its leaves resemble the pattern of a turtle's shell,
it was probably named thus. In the Bukō Sanbutsu-shi (Record of Edo Products),
deer hoof plant is considered to be turtle shell plant, which corresponds to
the deer hoof plant in the Bencao Gangmu according to this theory.
