和漢三才図会に言う：
徐長卿 《和名》ヒメカガミ
多識編の山草類に言う：
徐長卿 《和名》フナワラ 《別名》鬼督郵《本経》 別仙蹤《蘇頌》
徐長卿は人の名である。常にこの薬を用いて邪病を治療するので
この名がついた。
鬼物・疫疾・温瘧を治療する。思うに鬼督郵・徐長郵・赤箭の
三つの薬物は皆鬼病を治療するので、共に鬼督郵の名を
持っている。名前は同じだが物は
異なる。古代の宿駅には督郵の官があった《鬼を司る官である》

[Modern editor's note: Jochōkei refers to Vincetoxicum atratum of the dogbane family, but judging from this illustration, the flower depiction is perfunctory and the leaf shape is completely different. This appears to be a different plant. The currently known jochōkei = suzusaiko is closer to frame 49]
The Wakan Sansai Zue states:
Jochōkei (Vincetoxicum) 《Japanese name》Himekagami
The Tashoku-hen states in its section on mountain plants:
Jochōkei 《Japanese name》Funawara 《Alternative name》Kitokuyu《Honkei》 Bessenseki《Su Song》
Jochōkei is a person's name. It was named thus because this medicine
was constantly used to treat evil diseases.
It treats ghostly afflictions, epidemic diseases, and intermittent fever. I believe that kitokuyu, jochōyu, and sekisen—
these three medicinal substances all treat ghost diseases, so they all share
the name kitokuyu. The names are the same but the substances
are different. In ancient times, there was an official called tokuyu at post stations《an official who governed ghosts》
