紫珠（やぶむらさき）
地錦抄曰
山紫（やまむらさき）
予曰
山紫。鼠季（むらさきしきふ）。山白（やましろ）。小式部（こしきぶ）
皆同種￣に而各別物似￣り＿二皆能
相＿一然￣とも其葉長短以＿二実￣の大小￣を＿一
分￣つ＿レ之￣を鼠季￣は其実濃 紫藤（ふじ）
色実大《送り仮名：也》山紫￣は其実小￣く藤色山白￣は山紫￣の実￣の
白色（しろきもの）落葉￣の後実如＿レ雪￣の故￣に名￣く小式部￣は其枝
柔垂（しなえたルヽ）如＿レ柳￣の実藤色皆相似￣て別物也

武江物産志に言う：
紫珠（やぶむらさき）
地錦抄に言う：
山紫（やまむらさき）
私が言う：
山紫、ムラサキシキブ、山白、小式部は
皆同種でありながら各々別の植物に似ている。皆よく
似ているが、その葉の長短と実の大小で
これらを分類する。ムラサキシキブはその実が濃い藤
色で実が大きい。山紫はその実が小さく藤色。山白は山紫の実の
白いもので、落葉後の実が雪のようであることからこの名前がある。小式部はその枝が
柳のようにしなやかに垂れ下がり、実は藤色。皆似ているが別の植物である。

【Japanese Beautyberry, Purple Beautyberry】
The Bukō Bussan-shi (Records of Edo Products) states:
Purple pearl (yabu-murasaki)
The Chikin-shō states:
Mountain purple (yama-murasaki)
I state:
Mountain purple, purple beautyberry, mountain white, and small Shikibu are
all of the same species, yet each resembles different plants. They all closely
resemble each other, but they can be classified by the length of their leaves and the size of their berries. Purple beautyberry has berries of deep wisteria
color and large size. Mountain purple has small berries of wisteria color. Mountain white has white berries of the mountain purple type,
named so because the berries after leaf-fall look like snow. Small Shikibu has branches that
droop gracefully like willow, with wisteria-colored berries. All are similar but distinct plants.
