二十三日に写す

『和漢三才図会』蔓草類および『草木詩譜』に曰く：
　　雪下紅（セツカカウ）

本草家に曰く：
　　白英
　　　予（著者）曰く：
　　　　同名にして混同されることは、
　　　　前巻の白英の
　　　　条に説く

環（著者の号）曰く：
　雪下紅は、国内の俗称では皆「鴨上戸（ヒヨトリジャウゴ）」と称す。これは白英の名であって、二種が一名となったものであろうか。しかしながら、『多識篇』および『和名抄』には、白英に「鴨」の読みは見えず、諸本草書を正すに至らず。雪下紅もまた「鴨上戸」と称されているのである。

英語訳

【Setsukakō (Yukishitabeni / Scarlet-under-Snow)】

Written/illustrated on the twenty-third day after the rainy season ends, in the year of Hinoe-inu.

From the "Wakan Sansai Zue" (Japanese-Chinese Illustrated Encyclopedia), section on climbing plants, and the "Sōmoku Shifu" (Herbal Poetry Compendium), it states:
　　Setsukakō (Yukishitabeni)

The herbalists state:
　　Hakuei (Bái Yīng / White Nightshade)
　　　The author notes:
　　　　Regarding the confusion arising from sharing the same name, this is explained in the entry for Hakuei in the previous volume.

Kan (the author's pen name) states:
　The plant Setsukakō is commonly known throughout Japan as "Hiyotori-jōgo." This is a name associated with Hakuei, and the two plants may have come to share a single name. However, in both the "Tashikiben" and the "Wamyōshō," there is no reading of "kamo" (鴨) attached to Hakuei, and the various herbal texts have not been corrected on this point. Setsukakō is also referred to as "Hiyotori-jōgo."
