環（著者の別号・または引用者）曰く：
雪下紅は、国俗（日本の民間）では皆これを「鴨上戸（ヒヨトリジョウゴ）」と称す。これは白英の名とともに、二種が一名となっているのであろうか。しかしながら、『多識篇』および『和名抄』には、白英に「鴨（ヒヨドリ）」の読みが見当たらず、諸本の草（本草書）をいまだ正しく確定できていない。雪下紅もまた「鴨上戸」と称されている。

Hakuei (白英 / *Solanum lyratum*)

"Kan" (the author's pseudonym or a cited commentator) states:
In popular Japanese usage, Setsukakō is universally called "Hiyotori-jōgo" (鴨上戸). This name is shared with Hakuei — could it be that two different species share a single name? However, in both the "Tashikiben" (多識篇) and the "Wamyōshō" (和名抄), the reading of "kamo/hiyodori" does not appear under the entry for Hakuei, and the matter has not yet been settled against the various herbal texts. Setsukakō is also referred to as "Hiyotori-jōgo."
