楊氏抄に曰く
馬歯草 うまひゆ
本草綱目に曰く、馬莧には二種あり
葉の大きなものは用に堪えず、葉の小さなもので節
葉の間に水銀のような汁がある菜である。その葉は青く
茎は赤く花は黄色、根は白、種は黒色であるため
五行草と名付けられる。
馬莧はその葉が馬の歯に似ているため馬莧と
名付けられ、柔らかく滑らかであるため須倍利比由
（すべりひゆ）と名付けられる。須倍利は滑らかという和語である。

Horse tooth grass umahiyu (purslane)
The Bencao Gangmu states that there are two types of horse purslane.
The large-leafed variety is not suitable for use; the small-leafed variety has
mercury-like sap between the nodes and leaves. Its leaves are blue,
stems are red, flowers are yellow, roots are white, and seeds are black, therefore
it is called five-element grass.
Horse purslane is named so because its leaves resemble horse teeth,
and because it is soft and slippery, it is called suberihiyu
(sliding-smooth plant). "Suberi" is the Japanese word for slippery.
