現代語訳
【右頁 上】
羽鳥姫は天人なので、その美しさは例えようがなかった。蔵人は寵愛のあまり、姫の心を察して物語をするほどである。本来、香取姫もただの人ではないので、この頃やって来た女は天人だと悟り、いよいよ事を図って試してみる。ある時、真実を明かして「羽衣を返してください」と言うと、蔵人は姫を下界に留めておきたい思いから、「羽衣はある方に質に入れてあり、千両の金がなくては取り返し難い」と嘘をついた。これより羽鳥姫は金の工面を心がけるようになった。

「私はお情けを受けまして嬉しく存じますが、長くこの地には留まれません。どうぞ羽衣を返して、私を天上にお帰らせください。」
「その美しいあなたを手放せるものか。羽衣は金千両なければ取り返せない。まず時節を待て。」

いつも羽鳥姫が簪を掲げて天に向かって物を言えば、雨が降り五色の雲が浮かぶ事を見届けていたある時、香取姫がその簪を持って羽鳥姫がすることを真似すると、雨が降り雲が浮かんだ。そこでいよいよ天女であることを悟り知った。「私も天人に等しく、一度天上への望みがあるものを。心ばかりでは羽鳥姫に劣ろうか。我らも心地よい雨雲よ。」

Since Hatori-hime was a celestial being, her beauty was beyond comparison. Kurando, in his excessive affection, would tell stories after discerning the princess's feelings. Originally, Katori-hime was also not an ordinary person, so realizing that the woman who had recently arrived was a celestial being, she increasingly plotted and tested her. At one time, when Hatori-hime revealed the truth and said "Please return my feathered robe," Kurando, wanting to keep the princess in the earthly realm, lied saying "The feathered robe has been pawned to someone, and without a thousand ryō in gold, it would be difficult to retrieve." From this point on, Hatori-hime began to concern herself with raising the money.

Katori-hime had always observed that whenever Hatori-hime raised her hairpin toward heaven and spoke, rain would fall and five-colored clouds would float. One time, when Katori-hime took that hairpin and imitated what Hatori-hime did, rain fell and clouds floated. Then she truly realized and understood that Hatori-hime was indeed a celestial maiden. "I too, equal to a celestial being, have a desire for heaven. In spirit, how could I be inferior to Hatori-hime? We too can summon these pleasant rain clouds."
