佐野の舟橋というのは、佐野川を隔てた舟の仕掛けで、山の岩を掘り抜いて大綱を通し、これを佐野村の岩に繋いで、角綱を通して小綱を舟に付ける。舟に乗る人がその綱を手繰れば舟が動いて向こうへ一人で渡ることができる。これを舟橋という。また、この所にて伊香保の明神、狩生の宮、常世が屋敷跡など様々な名所がある。近松が作成した西明寺の道行の文句に「佐野の出立ち、肴にて」という古歌の跡もある。事が多いので省略する。

「うまい具合だ。ずばっと舞い込んできた岩魚を少し脅してやろう。
この機会に雛蔵の奴も締めてやろう。
あいつを締めるのは、竿を釣って小魚を挟むより心安いことだ。」

ここより十八丁あなたに山本の里というのは今の山名のことである。佐野の渡しより山まで十八丁あり、その頃雛蔵は山名へ来て通い詰めていた。お佐野が毎日雛蔵のもとへ通うのを馬左衛門が憎く思い、川の中程に刃を植え置き、ある夜いつものようにお佐野が渡る所を舟を覆して沈める。お佐野は川へ突き落とされ、胸を貫かれて虚しくなってしまう。ああ。

What is called Sano no Funabashi (Sano Boat Bridge) is a boat mechanism that spans the Sano River. They hollowed out mountain rocks and passed a large rope through them, tied this to rocks in Sano village, passed corner ropes through, and attached small ropes to the boat. When people boarding the boat pull on these ropes, the boat moves and they can cross to the other side alone. This is called a boat bridge. Also, at this location there are various famous places such as Ikaho Myōjin shrine, Karyu no Miya shrine, and the ruins of Tsuneyo's residence. In the travel scene of Saimyōji that Chikamatsu composed, there are also traces of an old poem that says "Setting out from Sano, with fish as accompaniment." Since there are many matters, I will omit them.

Eighteen chō beyond here is a village called Yamamoto, which is present-day Yamana. From Sano crossing to the mountain is eighteen chō, and around that time Hinazō had come to Yamana and was frequenting the area. Bazaemon harbored hatred seeing Osano go to Hinazō's place every day. He planted a blade in the middle of the river, and one night when Osano was crossing as usual, he capsized the boat and sank it. Osano was thrown into the river, pierced through the chest, and died in vain. Ah!
