ルモノヽヤウニモ思ハル此 碑（ヒ）ノ事ハ世上ノ人 普（アマネ）ク

るもののようにも思われる。この碑のことは世上の人が広く知るところであるから、詳しくは記さない。また、ある人が言うには、「壺」は「つぼ」と読む字ではなく、音は「こん」で、街中の碑を「壺碑（こんぴ）」と言うと『爾雅』の注にも出ているという。いかがであろうか。
また「東の壺碑（つぼのいしぶみ）」というものがある。これはこの多賀城よりは七、八十里ばかり東北の方、南部の野辺地の近在に壺村という所がある。その村に壺山という山があって、この山に石碑がある。村民はその碑を尊敬し、社を建ててこれを祭り、氏神として往古よりみだりに開くことはない。碑面は

The villagers revere this monument, have built a shrine and worship it as their tutelary deity, and since ancient times have never opened it carelessly. The monument's surface
