現代語訳
ありと聞くえそ世の中を思い離れぬ」また西行の『山家集』に「みちのくは奥ゆかしくも思ほゆる壺の石文外の浜風」などがあれば、これらも東の壺碑のことかと思われる。
蛮語
天地が開けてからこの方、今の時ほど太平なることはあるまい。西は鬼界・屋久の島より東は奥州の外ヶ浜まで、号令の行き届かない所もない。往古は屋久の島は屋久国として異国のように聞こえ、また奥州も半ばは蝦夷人の領地であったのか、なお近い頃まで夷人の住所であった。
英語訳
"Do you hear of it? I cannot put the world out of my mind." Also, in Saigyō's *Sankashū* there are verses like "Michinoku seems so distant and alluring, the stone monument at Tsubo, the winds of Soto-ga-hama," and such—these too seem to refer to the eastern Tsubo monument.
Barbarian Territories
Since heaven and earth first opened, there has never been a time as peaceful as now. From Kikai and Yaku islands in the west to Soto-ga-hama in Ōshū in the east, there is no place where governmental authority does not reach. In ancient times, Yaku Island was called Yaku-no-kuni and seemed like a foreign country, and even Ōshū—half of it was Ezo territory, wasn't it? Even until recent times it was a dwelling place of the barbarian peoples.
