現代語訳
落ち入って倒れることが数十度に及んだ。されども積雪至って深ければ、川の上といえども身体全く落ち入ることなし。かく千辛万苦して僅かに二里の場は半日かかり、日暮れに至ってようやく葡萄の駅にたどり着いた。誠に老婆の言葉に従い、塩の町に一宿し、早朝の雪の堅いうちに案内者を雇って来たらば、かかる危うきことには遭わじと後悔しながら、先ず恙なくて着いたのを悦び、湯を使い炉にあたり寒気を防ぐに、足より血の流るるに驚く。
英語訳
We fell and tumbled dozens of times. However, because the accumulated snow was extremely deep, even when falling into streams, our bodies never completely plunged through. Thus, through tremendous hardships, what should have been merely a two-ri journey took half a day, and we finally managed to reach Budō Station as evening fell. I truly regretted not having followed the old woman's advice to stay overnight in Shio-no-machi and hire a guide to come with us in the early morning when the snow was firm—then we would not have encountered such dangers. While regretting this, I was first relieved that we had arrived safely. As I bathed and warmed myself by the hearth to ward off the cold, I was startled to see blood flowing from my feet.
