I was not assigned any particular tasks, and food was served to me alone on separate plates and such, while the sailors were served together from buckets.
First, around midnight in mid-April of the same year, we were brought ashore at a place whose name was "San Lucas" within "California" of "America."
First, in the morning of mid-May of the same year, the master who put me on horseback was an official like a magistrate who governed the land of "California," whose title was "Comandante Francisco." While I stayed in "California," I was well cared for by this person, and during my stay I received clothing and various other items. The appearance of the horse's saddle that I rode with this person was roughly as follows:

First, the horse was the same as Japanese horses, with no particularly different features apparent.
First, the saddle was covered front and back with leather embossed with black arabesque patterns over a wooden base, with silver ornamental metalwork attached in places. On the left and right sides were leather cylinders as shown in the diagram【cylindrical diagram】, about one shaku three sun long and eight to nine sun in circumference, wrapped in silver with patterns like engraving. Inside these cylinders, small firearms were inserted one each with the muzzle pointing downward. The priming pan and touch hole appeared to be crafted items, and when firing, gunpowder cord was not used. The name of the small firearm was "pistol."
First, the stirrups were made of polished iron, hanging stirrups as shown in the diagram, into which one inserted and stepped with shoes on.
First, the mud guards were made of black leather with embossed arabesque patterns like the saddle, in the Japanese style...
