さてこのさうしもいま
半になりしところへ

あらはれ作者一九をむにむざん
にとつつかまへていわくなんじ
あとかたもなきもうけんをはきて
此さくをなせりあまり人をばかにしたに
あらずやそれ人はゐんやう形気（けいき）の二化に

のごとくはたけにうへてつくらんや
これうそづきのはなはだしき也

現代語訳
さて、この草子も今半分になったところへ、恐ろしい鬼が忽然と現れ、作者一九を無慈悲にぱっと捕まえて言うことには、「汝、跡形もなき妄言を吐いてこの作を成せり。あまりに人を馬鹿にしたのではないか。それ、人は陰陽形気の二化によって出生せり。何ぞ人参大根のごとく畑に植えて作らんや。これは嘘つきの甚だしきなり。よって汝の舌を抜くなり」と釘抜きを持って何の苦もなく引き抜いたり。
もとより作者は舌を二枚ずつ使う男なれば、結構も付けの幸いにて、これより舌一枚になれば嘘をつく事ならず、正直者となりければ、忽ち頭に神様が宿り給うゆえ、件の鬼は肝を潰し「あら恐ろしの神様や」と逃げ行く所を逃がさず、一九は声張り上げ「鬼は外、福は内」
♪大晦日の鬼もお前のように逃げてくれればいい
めでたい
福は内、鬼は外
♪鬼が帰りがけの駄賃に言う
「手前も大坂では大分不埒をしてきたから、これから精出して稼いだがいい。さらば」

Now, just as this booklet reached its halfway point, a terrifying demon suddenly appeared and mercilessly seized author Ichiku, saying: "You have created this work by spouting complete nonsense! Are you not making too much of a fool of people? Humans are born through the dual transformations of yin-yang and material energy. How could they be planted and grown in fields like carrots and radishes? This is the height of lying! Therefore, I shall pull out your tongue!" And with pliers, he pulled it out without any difficulty.
Since the author was originally a man who used two tongues at once, this was actually quite fortunate for him. Now that he had only one tongue, he could no longer tell lies and became an honest person. Immediately, a god took residence in his head, so the aforementioned demon was terrified and tried to flee, crying "Oh, what a frightening god!" But not letting him escape, Ichiku raised his voice: "Demons out! Good fortune in!"
♪If only the New Year's Eve demons would flee like you do, how nice it would be
Auspicious indeed!
Good fortune in! Demons out!
♪The demon says as a parting shot:
"You too have been quite dissolute in Osaka, so from now on you'd better work hard and earn honestly. Farewell!"
