肝胆（かんたん）の木気（もくき）伸（のひ）ん事を欲（ほつ）するものは。本艸（ほんさう）に所謂（いはゆる）
木欝（もくうつ）の症（しやう）なり。気（き）は木（き）にして。其色（そのいろ）黄（き）なるをもて
敷初（しきそめ）の蕎麦切（そばきり）に。うどんげの花を咲（さか）せ。初道中（はつだうちう）の酒（さけ）ひた
しに浮木（うきゝ）の亀（かめ）の齢（よはひ）をのぶる延紙（のへがみ）の一筆には。一枝（いつし）を伐の
木性（きしやう）を顕（あらは）し遠（とを）く連理（れんり）の末（すへ）を契（ちぎ）る。何ぞ木さしに
あらすと謂（いふ）ふへけんや。是故（このゆへ）に木息子（きむすこ）あれは木娘（きむすめ）あり。木（ぼく）
訥（とつ）は仁（じん）に近（ちか）しと。其木（そのき）を断（たつ）て此（こゝ）に投出（なげいだ）す事しかり

現代語訳
肝胆の木気が伸びることを欲するものは、本草書にいわゆる木鬱の症状である。気は木であって、その色が黄色であることから、敷き始めの蕎麦切りに優曇華の花を咲かせ、初めての道中の酒浸しに浮き木の亀の寿命を延ばす延紙の一筆には、一枝を切る木の性質を表し、遠く連理の末を契る。どうして木挿しでないと言えようか。この故に木息子があれば木娘もある。木訥は仁に近いと。その木を断ってここに投げ出すことは然りである。

英語訳
Those who desire the expansion of the liver and gallbladder's wood qi suffer from what is called in herbal medicine the symptoms of wood depression. Since qi is wood and its color is yellow, making udumbara flowers bloom in freshly laid soba noodles, and in the sake-soaked dishes of one's first journey, extending the lifespan of the driftwood turtle with延紙 (a type of paper), in one stroke reveals the nature of wood by cutting a single branch, and makes a distant covenant with the ends of intertwined branches. How could one say this is not wood grafting? Therefore, if there are wooden sons, there are also wooden daughters. Simplicity of speech is close to benevolence. It is thus right to cut that wood and cast it forth here.
