現代語訳
天地が開けて、伊邪那岐・伊邪那美の命より始まって、陰陽の道が行われ、天照大神が万事を司ってこの国を開かれた。その頃まだ開き残された一つの島があった。格別に大きな土地で、神様も手が回らず、特に日本を去ること御定めの通り嘘八百里にして、三千世界の垣根の外のことなので、遠方ゆえにまず打ち捨てておかれたが、そもそも陰陽の道は神様がお始めになったことだけれども、およそ女の子を妊娠してからは仏たちの担当となって、懐胎のその月よりだんだんに代わる代わるに務められる。その仏の内でも不動明王は利口者で初月を受け取られる役なので、天神宮がひそかに不動様のもとへ来られて、かの島のことを話され、「忙しいといって打ち捨てておくのもいかがなものか。何とぞ方便でなんとかする方法はあるまいか」と相談された。
♪「仲間の内でも文殊先生などがいらっしゃるなら、どのようにでも仕方があろう。ひとえに機嫌を見計らってのお頼みさ」などと、どうか神様だけの思いなしか、拝み倒していうようなせりふに聞こえる。
♪「こちらへ参ると、この護摩の煙で燻されるには、失礼いたします」
♪不動はおっしゃる「なあ。愚僧が利剣にかけてお教え申しましょう」
♪「これ金剛は、どうした。お酌でも持ってきやれ。燗はこちらの火炎でするぞ」
英語訳
When heaven and earth opened and from the commands of Izanagi and Izanami the Way of Yin and Yang was established, Amaterasu Ōmikami governed all things and opened this country. At that time there remained one island that had not yet been opened. It was an exceptionally large land, and the gods could not manage it all. Particularly, departing from Japan according to divine decree, it was a false eight hundred ri away, outside the fence of the three thousand worlds. Being so distant, they first left it abandoned.
Originally, though the gods began the Way of Yin and Yang, generally after a woman becomes pregnant, it becomes the responsibility of the Buddhas, and from the month of conception onward, they take turns in their duties. Among these Buddhas, Fudō Myōō is clever and takes the role of receiving the first month. So Tenjingū secretly came to Fudō-sama and spoke of that island, consulting: "It seems improper to abandon it just because we are busy. Is there not some expedient method to handle this?"
♪ "Among our companions, if Monju-sensei and others are present, there would be some way to handle this. It is entirely a matter of reading the mood for such a request," and so forth - perhaps this is just the gods' wishful thinking, but it sounds like the kind of lines one says while bowing repeatedly in supplication.
♪ "When I come here, to be smoked by this goma incense would be presumptuous of me."
♪ Fudō says: "Well now, this humble monk swears by his sharp sword to teach you."
♪ "Hey Kongō, what's wrong with you? Bring some sake cups. I'll warm the sake with my flames."
