序
天正年間に織田氏が南蛮寺を建立してキリスト教を興隆させようと欲したのは、おそらく一時的な懐柔策という権謀から出たものに過ぎない。しかしながら、その毒が燃え広がって四方の人々を惑わせることは甚だ防ぎ難いものであった。およそ六十余年を経て、その党派を殲滅したことは、万世にわたる治安の妙策がここに成ったということである。かの邪な信徒たちは教えを仮の姿として、人心を結び付ける手段として用い、その実態は国を掠め取り、土地を奪う詭計に過ぎない。近年、邪な信徒が都に入り込み、人を化かし惑わせているのは、消えた灰が再び燃えるようなもので、長嘆せずにはいられないのではないか。このたび私が「南蛮寺興廃記」を読むに、その記述は

Oda's desire to build the Namban Temple and promote Christianity during the Tensho era probably arose merely from a temporary policy of appeasement and political maneuvering. However, the spread of its poison, which bewitched people in all directions, was extremely difficult to prevent. After approximately sixty years had passed, the annihilation of that faction represented the successful implementation of an excellent policy for eternal peace and order. Those heretical followers used religion as a pretense to bind people's hearts together, but in reality it was nothing but a deceitful strategy to plunder the country and seize land. In recent years, heretical followers have entered the capital and are deceiving and bewitching people—like cold ashes reigniting. How can one not lament deeply?
