Although the writing is vulgar and crude, one can roughly discern the cunning intentions of the heretical followers. As military strategy states, "Know your enemy and know yourself, and you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles." Now we should thoroughly examine their malicious hearts, carefully observe their treacherous schemes, attack them with oral condemnation and written criticism, making their evil leaders die of despair, and then burn their books and eliminate all traces of them. Record of the Rise and Fall of the Namban Temple
At that time, during the reign of the 107th human sovereign, Emperor Ōgimachi, Oda Nobunaga arose from Owari Province, defeated Saitō and seized Mino Province, drove out the Sasaki and took Ōmi Province, protected Shōgun Ashikaga Yoshiaki and had him return to reside in Kyoto. He formed an alliance with the Tokugawa house in the south, destroyed the Asakura of Hokuetsu and the Asai of Gōhoku, sought to swallow the Chūgoku region with his military might, and his fame thundered throughout the western provinces. At this time, a single Namban ship landed at the port of Nagasaki in the domain of Ryūzōji Takashige, the lord of Hizen in Kyushu. On this ship came one person of strange appearance. This person was over nine shaku tall, had a small head compared to his torso, a red face, round eyes, and a high nose, and when looking sideways would turn his shoulders, with a large mouth.
