現代語訳
ある時、天々は鶴岡八幡宮へ参詣し、二軒茶屋で酒を飲みかけて酔い倒れ、うとうとしていると、夢の中で三柱の神が相談をしているのを見た。
八幡宮の神が仰せになるには、「なんと尊神たちよ、もはや十月も間近になったので、出雲大社での神々の集会の前に、各々の方へ一応内談したい子細がある。近年、諸国の氏子どもがことのほか贅沢になり、男女の縁結びの気持ちも好き勝手になったという行いは、世の中どこも同じであるが、とりわけ鎌倉のありさまは放逸極まりない。まず今年は縁結びの方は止めておいて、贅沢を取り除くようにしたいが、なんと皆様はいかがお考えか」
箱根大権現が仰せになるには、「いかにもその通りです。お言葉の通り、近年縁結びについては、この方の指図を待たず氏子どもが勝手気ままにそこへもここへもやたらに結ばれるので、我々が縁結びするのは全く無駄でございます」三島大明神が仰せになるには、「二神のご心労はごもっともでございます。とかく不埒の多いのは元々贅沢からのことなので、きっと贅沢を取り静め、身持ちを倹約にさせることが繁栄の御守りが第一でございます。出雲大社の集会でよくよく相談いたしましょう」

One time, Ten-ten made a pilgrimage to Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine, and while drinking at a two-ken teahouse, he became drunk and collapsed in a doze. In his dream, he saw three deities having a consultation.
The deity of Hachiman Shrine spoke: "Listen, honored deities, since the tenth month is approaching and before the gathering of gods at Izumo Grand Shrine, I wish to have a preliminary discussion with each of you about a certain matter. In recent years, the parishioners throughout the provinces have become excessively extravagant, and their attitudes toward matchmaking between men and women have become self-indulgent. While this behavior is uniform throughout the world, the situation in Kamakura is particularly dissolute. This year, I would like to suspend matchmaking activities and focus on eliminating extravagance. What do you all think about this?"
The Great Avatar of Hakone replied: "Indeed, indeed, just as you say. In recent years, regarding matchmaking, the parishioners arbitrarily form unions here and there without waiting for guidance from us, making our matchmaking efforts completely pointless." The Great Deity of Mishima said: "The concerns of both deities are entirely reasonable. Since most misconduct ultimately stems from extravagance, firmly suppressing luxury and encouraging frugal living should be the primary divine protection for prosperity. Let us discuss this thoroughly at the gathering at Izumo Grand Shrine."
