現代語訳
【毛女郎の台詞】
「こちらの人（今入道殿）を、立派だ立派だとほめてみても、見る目がない奴ですから」
【古入道の台詞】
「おお、そうだそうだ。もっと長く引っ張れ、長く引っ張れ」
【本文】
子には目のない親心で、古入道は何とか息子を化け物大将にしたく思い、後に残った唯一つの目をまたくりぬいて息子にやった。すると毛女郎は「これぞ夫婦の片目（支え合い）」と言って、初めにもらった目をくりぬき、今入道に渡した。今や立派な名誉ある化け物大将「越後の国の三つ目入道」として、化け物仲間も恐れをなしたということである。
英語訳
【Ke-jorō's dialogue】
"Even if I praise this person (Ima-nyūdō) as splendid, he's someone who lacks discernment."
【Furu-nyūdō's dialogue】
"Oh yes, that's right! Stretch it longer, stretch it much longer!"
【Main text】
With the blind parental love that sees no faults in one's child, Furu-nyūdō wanted desperately to make his son a monster general. He gouged out his remaining single eye and gave it to his son. Then Ke-jorō said "This is truly married couple's mutual support (katame)" and gouged out the eye she had initially received, giving it to Ima-nyūdō. Now, as the honorable monster general "Three-eyed Nyūdō of Echigo Province," even his fellow monsters came to fear him.
