現代語訳
今入道は、つくづくと考えていた。化け物の里は多くの化け物が入り込むところなので、この里に入り込んで化け修行をしようと、毎夜通っていた。このごろの売出し中の新屋の毛女郎と深く馴染むようになった。

狒狒が養子の御輿入道は、毛女郎が売出しになったその日から、いろいろと心を尽くして自分のものにしようとしたけれども、一向に承知しないので、どういうわけだろうと思っていた。毛女郎が今入道と深く馴染んで、良い仲だと聞いて、肝を潰した。毛女郎を今入道に取られては、養い親である狒狒に言い訳が立たない。何とかして毛女郎を我が手に入れ、今入道の鼻を折ってやろうと心を痛めているところ、遊郭で行き会って諍いとなり、ついに毛女郎の身請けをめぐる争いになる。

Ima-nyudō (Present Monk) was pondering deeply. Since the monster village was a place where many monsters gathered, he had been visiting nightly, intending to enter this village and practice monster ways. Recently, he had become deeply intimate with Ke-jorō (Hair Courtesan), a newly promoted courtesan at the Shin'ya house.

Mikoshi-nyudō (Portable Shrine Monk), the adopted son of a baboon, had been trying various ways to win over Ke-jorō since the day she was promoted as a featured courtesan, but she would not consent at all, so he wondered what the reason could be. When he heard that Ke-jorō was deeply intimate with Ima-nyudō and they were lovers, he was shocked. If Ke-jorō were taken by Ima-nyudō, he would have no excuse to give to the baboon who was his foster father. While he was agonizing over how to somehow get Ke-jorō into his hands and humble Ima-nyudō, they encountered each other at the pleasure quarter and got into a quarrel, which eventually led to a dispute over ransoming Ke-jorō.
