古の書（ふみ）に留（る）求（く）とかき哥にうるまのしまと
よめる皆今の琉（りう）球（きう）國のことなり其國初
天（てん）孫（そん）氏（し）にひらけて八郎／御（ご）曹（ぞう）子（し）《割書：為｜朝》の御／裔（すへ）
なるかうへは我（わか） 皇（み）國（くに）の属（ぞく）国（こく）なることいふも
更なるをかの朝（てう）鮮（せん）臺（たい）湾（わん）の界近く南海

序
古の書物に「留求」と書き、歌に「うるまのしま」と
詠まれているのは、皆今の琉球国のことである。その国は初め
天孫氏によって開かれ、八郎御曹子（為朝）の御
子孫であるからには、我が皇国の属国であることは言うまでも
ないが、あの朝鮮・台湾の境界近くの南海
はるかに荒潮の幾重にも隔てられているので、船の往来でさえ

Preface
What ancient writings record as "Rukyū" and what poems refer to as "Uruma no shima"
all concern the present-day Ryukyu Kingdom. Since that country was first
