**[Right folio]**
(Continued from previous page) — As the matter had become so troublesome that it seemed it might even come to litigation (*shutsuso*), he skillfully negotiated and resolved the matter quietly and amicably. In recognition of this, he was granted three bundles of cotton (*wata san-wa*) as a reward, by order.
- In October of the eighth year (Year of the Sheep, 1811), he diligently carried out his duties and skillfully managed the allocation of personnel. Furthermore, regarding the formal examination (*shiki ginmi*) of the previous year's surplus/deficit accounts (*eite kanjō*) in Edo, he exerted himself in various ways. In recognition of this, he was granted one roll of bleached cloth (*sarashi ichi-tan*) in lieu of a formal hemp ceremonial garment set (*asa o-kamishimo*), as a reward.
- In March of the ninth year (Year of the Monkey, 1812), regarding the defense preparations (*o-sonaewata*) for the coastal battery (*o-daiba*) in Sagami Province (*Sōshū*): although this involved considerable expenditures (*o-irime*), with regard to new outlays (*shinki no o-irikata*) as well,
**[Left folio]**
he carefully examined all matters in detail, and needless to say regarding items where reduction was possible, he also took particular care in managing the allocation of funds (*o-kuriawase-kata*). Despite the many and varied ad hoc duties, he diligently carried out all his responsibilities. In recognition of this, he was granted two silver coins (*ginsu ni-mai*) as a reward.
- In October of the same year, having diligently served for several decades, and having skillfully managed — to the greatest possible extent — both the allocation of funds (*o-kuriawase-kata*) and procurement and coordination matters (*tōtatsu suji*), despite all the considerable and varied expenditures required, he was, by way of special recognition, granted a direct increase (*o-choku kudashi-oki*) above his existing stipend of three *koku* and one person's rations (*ichi-nin fuchi*).
- In March of the tenth year of Bunka (Year of the Rooster, 1813), as requested, his *gisaku* (the notional/proxy rice stipend allocation) was rescinded (*meshiage*).
