英語訳

**[Right Page]** *(Continued from previous page)* …as the ceremonial betrothal (*go-yuino*) was to be presented [to Yonezawa], both Yonezawa Gunji and [the retainer] were ordered to jointly handle and carry out the relevant duties together. One entry, second month of the same year (Bunsei 6): During the previous winter, [the retainer] had served diligently in his appointed role during the *go-ninkan* (official court investiture ceremonies), performing his duties with great application despite the heavy workload. In recognition thereof, he was granted two *silver coins* (*ginsu niimai*) as a reward. One entry, fourth month of the same year: Upon the occasion of presenting the ceremonial betrothal gifts (*go-yuino*) to Lady Honkō-in, [the retainer] was appointed to the role of *daishaku-yaku* (the official responsible for arranging and presenting the formal gift platform/offerings). He joined the procession for the betrothal ceremony, accompanied Lord Satake Jirō-sama on the occasion, carried out the relevant duties, and was granted clothing allowance (*fukushiro*) in recognition. Note: Furthermore, in connection with this service, Lord Jirō-sama also personally granted [the retainer], as an expression of his pleasure, **[Left Page]** two *silver coins* (*ginsu niimai*). One entry, fourth month of the same year: Upon the occasion of the *go-nyūbu* (the formal entry/arrival of the bride into her new domain), [the retainer] was ordered to accompany [the procession] on the round trip. He departed [from Aizu] and returned in the fifth month of the same year. One entry, fifth month of the same year: [The retainer] applied himself diligently throughout the journey undertaken in service of the *go-nyūbu* escort duties, performing without any hindrance or delay. Moreover, in matters of allocating and distributing persons and horses (*hitodaka wariwatashi*), he was particularly praised for taking great pains and managing the arrangements admirably, as formally declared by official commendation. One entry, same month: Regarding the escort duties for the lord's procession (*go-gekō*), the arrangements differed from previous established precedents (*go-kiawase*), and there were official notices (*ofuregaki*) mandating strict compliance with regulations concerning the relay of persons and horses at post stations (*jinba tsugitate*) as well as inspection of cargo weights (*kanme aratame*). Since [the retainer] performed exceptional ad hoc labor in matters such as organizing and dispatching the baggage of members of the escort party, he was separately granted a gift of sake (*o-sake*) in recognition.
