細字を描くことを最も得意とし、筆先の力強さは寸鉄で人を打つかのようである。筆を取って描いている時には、寒さや暑さも感じない。また和歌の道を好む。これが四つ目の癖である。私にこの四つの癖があるのは、医者が玉丹・赤青（薬石）を持っているようなものである。そして春江と瑞斉の人となりは、霊妙で控えめ、温厚で上品であり、実に玉のように清らかで汚れのない双璧のような存在である。そして時々その才能を輝かせて

He is most skilled at painting fine details, and the strength of his brush tip strikes like a small iron weapon hitting a person. When he takes up his brush to paint, he knows neither cold nor heat. He also has a fondness for the way of poetry (waka). This is his fourth obsession. My having these four obsessions is like a doctor having medicinal stones of jade, cinnabar, red, and blue.
