At the beginning of the Kanbun era, the thousand pine trees
were cut down and cleared, townhouses were built
in succession, and when it was named Harima-machi,
land was granted in the back streets, and
permission for theaters and puppet stages was
given. In the autumn of the same fifth year, a man
named Yamashiro Kinai began
puppet jōruri performances,
and from that beginning until now,
famous actors from the three capitals
have been invited, and kabuki and jōruri
never cease.
