お的射の式が終わった後、射手六人のうち四人を、それぞれ青竹で作った輦台のようなものに乗せ、氏子の若い男性数十人でかつぎ上げ、いずれも「あたったりや、あたったり」

と囃し立てながら熱田中を走り回る勇ましさは、実に奇観である。昔はこの祭式を高蔵宮で行ったということで、今も中臈の射手二人は早暁にあの宮へ参宮する。最も秘密の事柄であるという。
この日に限って射手の神職は、烏帽子・狩衣の下に白衣を用いず、熨斗目を着るのは中古（平安中期）からの習わしであるということだ。

After the ritual of sacred archery (o-matoi) is completed, four of the six archers are placed on palanquin-like structures made of green bamboo, and dozens of young male parishioners carry them up, all chanting "It hit! It hit!"

as they run around throughout Atsuta - the spectacle is truly magnificent and extraordinary. In ancient times, this ritual was performed at Takakura Shrine, and even now two middle-ranking priest archers visit that shrine at early dawn. This is said to be the most secret of matters.
On this day only, the archer priests do not wear white robes under their court caps (eboshi) and hunting robes (kariginu), but instead wear noshime robes - this has been the custom since the middle ages.
