当寺の開山である義本禅師は、遠州浜松の普済寺を開祖した寒岩義尹禅師（道元禅師の師の兄で、後鳥羽院の第二皇子）の孫弟子にあたり、当寺は尾張国における禅宗寺院の創始とされている。

Hayasume Akiba Shrine
The founding abbot of this temple, Zen Master Gihon, was a grand-disciple of Zen Master Kangan Giin (elder brother of Dōgen Zen Master's teacher and second imperial prince of Emperor Go-Toba), who founded Fusai-ji Temple in Hamamatsu, Enshu Province. This temple is said to be the beginning of Zen temples in Owari Province.
