せられしに光明寺の地主いと殊勝（しゆしやう）におもひ念仏の法問なん
ど尋ねける終に上人に帰して時宗（じしう）となり梵（ぼん）阿弥陀仏と
号す即一遍上人を中興の祖と仰（あふ）ぎける今に至りて三十四
世なり門外三島明神の祠の傍（かたはら）にそのかみ古き榎木（ゑのき）あり豊臣
秀吉公おさなかりし時当寺に入て手習し給ひけるがいとまある時
はかの榎木の下に村童と遊戯（ゆうげ）し給ひけり壮年に至りて猶
昔の楽（たのし）みをわすれず自ら木下と名のられけるよし寺僧の
口碑に伝へ侍りし又天文の初光明寺 派下（はか）に福阿弥（ふくあみ）といへる
僧あり眼疾（がんしつ）を療（りやう）しける事を得たり 後奈良院召て御 疾（やまひ）を
医（ゐ）せしめ玉ひけるが御 快（こゝろよ）くならせ玉ひしかば時々召されけるに後
故ありて官女（くわんぢよ）を玉ひしかば携（たづさへ）て国に帰り還俗（げんぞく）して愛知郡中
村に居を移し弥助と称せししかるに彼官女の生（うめ）る子（こ）即秀吉

されたところ、光明寺の地主（檀家の有力者）がたいそう殊勝に思い、念仏の教えなどを尋ねた。ついに一遍上人に帰依して時宗となり、梵阿弥陀仏と号した。すなわち一遍上人を中興の祖と仰いだのである。今に至って三十四世である。門外の三島明神の祠のそばに、その昔からの古い榎の木がある。豊臣秀吉公が幼少の頃、当寺に入って手習いをされたが、暇がある時はあの榎の木の下で村の子供たちと遊戯をされた。壮年に至ってもなお昔の楽しみを忘れず、自ら木下と名乗られたということを、寺の僧侶の口伝で伝えている。また天文年間の初めに、光明寺の末寺に福阿弥という僧がいて、眼病を治療することができた。後奈良天皇が召して御病気を治療させられたところ、快復されたので、時々召されるようになった。後に事情があって官女を賜ったので、連れて国に帰り、還俗して愛知郡中村に居を移し、弥助と称した。その官女が産んだ子が、すなわち秀吉公である。故に光明寺へ遣わして手習いをさせたのだという。《以下略》○本尊《阿弥陀如来》

When this happened, the patron of Kōmyōji Temple thought it very admirable and inquired about the teachings of nembutsu and other matters. Eventually he took refuge in Saint Ippen, became a follower of the Ji sect, and took the name Bon Amidabutsu. He revered Saint Ippen as the founder of the temple's revival. To this day, it has been thirty-four generations. Outside the gate, beside the shrine of Mishima Myōjin, there is an ancient enoki (hackberry) tree from olden times. When Toyotomi Hideyoshi was young, he entered this temple to practice calligraphy, and in his spare time he would play with the village children under that enoki tree. Even when he reached adulthood, he did not forget the pleasures of his childhood and called himself Kinoshita, as has been passed down through the oral tradition of the temple monks. Also, at the beginning of the Tenbun era, there was a monk called Fukuami at a branch temple under Kōmyōji who was skilled at treating eye diseases. Emperor Go-Nara summoned him to treat his illness, and when His Majesty recovered, he was called upon from time to time. Later, for certain reasons, he was granted a court lady, whom he brought back to his home province. He returned to lay life, moved his residence to Nakamura in Aichi District, and called himself Yasuke. The child born to that court lady was none other than Hideyoshi.
