大 銀杏（いてう）
俗に御 杖（つえ）銀杏と云ふこは
そのかみ一遍上人当国
行脚（あんぎや）の時 携（たづさふ）る所の
杖を此地にさゝれたるに
いつしか芽（め）をふき根（ね）を
生じて今はかゝる大木と
なれりとぞ土人の口
碑を其まゝこゝにうつ
しぬ
かしこくも
聖か杖は
世の人の
ねかふみのりの
ちからなるらん

現代語訳
下萱津
大銀杏
俗に御杖銀杏と呼ばれている。これは、その昔一遍上人が当国を行脚された時に、携えていた杖をこの地に挿されたところ、いつの間にか芽を吹き根を生じて、今はこのような大木となったということである。土地の人々の口伝をそのままここに記す。
畏れ多くも
聖人の杖は
世の人の
願う教えの
力であろう

Shimo-Kayazu
Great Ginkgo Tree
This is commonly called the "Sacred Staff Ginkgo." The story goes that long ago, when Saint Ippen was traveling on pilgrimage through this province, he planted his walking staff in this ground, and before anyone knew it, it had sprouted and taken root, growing into the great tree we see today. I record here the oral tradition of the local people just as it has been passed down.
How sacred indeed—
The saint's staff has become
For all people
The power of the teaching
They earnestly seek
