九月二十日の日、新屋という里を通り過ぎた時、何の謂れがあってか、里人が昔より小野小町が臥したという田の中にささやかな塚があるという。その塚の木の下の紅葉が色づき始めて、薄などが枯れているのがとても哀れに見えたので

昔の都の美しい女性の塚も寂しく、更けゆく秋の風が身にしみる
鶴叟
枯れたとはいえ、薄の心意気はまだ保っているのだな

Komachi Mound
On the 20th day of the 9th month, while passing through the village called Araya, for some reason the villagers have long said that there is a small mound in the rice fields where Ono no Komachi once lay. The maple leaves under the trees of that mound were beginning to turn red, and the pampas grass and such were withering, appearing most melancholy, so:
Kōmon
The mound of the ancient capital's beautiful maiden grows lonely, and the wind of deepening autumn pierces to the bone
Kakusō
Though withered, the pampas grass still retains its spirit
