諸桑（もろくは）村にて古船（こせん）を
堀出（ほりいだ）す図
天保九年閏四月当村にて
川 浚（ざら）へをせしに満成（まんじやう）寺と
いへる寺の裏辺（うらべ）にて古木（こぼく）の
如（こと）き物（もの）に堀当りしかばみな
〳〵いぶかしく思ひ猶ふかく
堀わりしにいと大きなる船（ふね）
を堀出せり此船 往古（むかし）の製（せい）
にて樟（くす）の丸木（まるき）船なるが
三ヶ所つぎてかんぬき
をもつて是をさすまた
船中（せんちう）より大網（おほあみ）のいわ
古瓦（こが）古銭（こせん）其余 異（ゐ）
形（ぎやう）の珍器（ちんき）多く出たり
夫より又其ほとり
をほりかへし見れ
ば木仏像（もくぶつざう）の半（はん）
躯（く）を堀出せり
さて当村は式（しき）
内（ない）諸鍬（もろくは）の神社

辺の海にてありし
時よりしづみし
船ならんか又は隣（りん）
村古川村はもと川

て今の村とせし

にてそこにあり
し川船のいつ
しか埋（うも）れありし

諸桑村にて古船を掘り出した図
天保9年閏4月、当村にて川浚いをしていたところ、満成寺という寺の裏手辺りにて古木のような物に掘り当たったので、皆々不審に思い、なお深く掘り割ったところ、とても大きな船を掘り出した。この船は往古の製作で楠の丸木船であるが、三ヶ所継いでかんぬきをもってこれを差している。また船中より大網の錨、古瓦、古銭、その他異形の珍器が多く出た。それよりまたその辺りを掘り返して見れば、木仏像の半身を掘り出した。さて当村は式内諸鍬の神社

もあって千年に及ぶ旧地であるけれど、その以前、まだこの辺が海であった時よりしずんだ船であろうか。あるいは隣村古川村は元川筋であったのを埋めて今の村としたということなれば、この辺までもあの川筋であって、そこにあった川船がいつしか埋もれてあったのかもしれない。

Illustration of an ancient ship excavated in Morokwa village
In the intercalary 4th month of Tenpō 9, when dredging the river in this village, they struck something like ancient wood near the back of a temple called Manjō-ji. Everyone found this suspicious, so they dug deeper and excavated a very large ship. This ship was made in ancient times and was a camphor wood dugout canoe, but it was joined in three places with crossbars inserted through them. Also from within the ship came large net anchors, old roof tiles, old coins, and many other strangely-shaped rare vessels. When they then dug around that area further, they excavated the torso of a wooden Buddhist statue. Now, this village has the Shikinai Morokwa shrine

and is an old site spanning a thousand years, but this may be a ship that sank from the time before when this area was still sea. Or perhaps, since the neighboring village Furukawa was originally a river course that was filled in to become the present village, this area too may have been part of that river course, and a river boat that was there became buried over time.
