城の兵たちは蝉の抜け殻のようになってしまい、その上矢種も火薬も尽きてしまったので、滝川一益は降伏して退却しようと家臣に相談したところ、もっともなことでございますということで、すぐに城を明け渡し、同月二十七日に伊勢国木造の城へ退いて行った。その以前は富田左近丞と両人でこの城にいたが、富田が言うには「蟹江の城を退却したことについて、どのような堅い約束があるのだろうか。この城へは入ることができない」と申した。滝川一益は天にも地にも居場所のない境遇となって、後は越前の五分一という所で最期を遂げた、云々。
豊臣秀吉譜によると、「滝川左近将監一益は、柴田（勝家）滅亡の後、越前に潜んで住んでいた。秀吉はその武名を惜しみ、伊勢の神戸に住まわせた。一益は秀吉と信雄が兵を結んだと聞いて、すぐに使者を尾州蟹江の城主前田与十郎に遣わして言った。『汝は秀吉に忠を尽くすべきである。もしそうすれば、恩禄は少なくないであろう』と。前田はこれを聞き入れた。そこで一益は九鬼右馬允嘉隆と共に船に乗って蟹江の城に入った。大権現（徳川家康）は信雄と共にこれを聞き、すぐに兵を率いて往き、これを攻めた。酒井忠次、榊原康政が…」

The soldiers in the castle had become like empty cicada shells, and moreover, their arrows and gunpowder were exhausted. When Takigawa Kazumasu consulted with his retainers about surrendering and retreating, they replied that it would be most reasonable. He immediately surrendered the castle and on the 27th day of the same month retreated to Kitsukuri Castle in Ise Province. Previously, both he and Tomita Sakon-no-jō had been stationed at this castle, but Tomita said, "Regarding the retreat from Kanie Castle, what kind of firm promise could there be? I cannot enter this castle." Takigawa Kazumasu found himself in a situation where he belonged neither in heaven nor on earth, and later met his end at a place called Gobuichi in Echizen Province.
According to the Chronicle of Toyotomi Hideyoshi: "Takigawa Sakon-shōgen Kazumasu, after the destruction of Shibata (Katsuie), was living in hiding in Echizen. Hideyoshi, valuing his military reputation, had him reside in Kanbe in Ise. When Kazumasu heard that Hideyoshi and Nobukatsu had joined forces, he immediately sent an envoy to Maeda Yojūrō, lord of Kanie Castle in Owari Province, saying: 'You should be loyal to Hideyoshi. If you do so, your rewards will be substantial.' Maeda listened to this. Thereupon, Kazumasu, together with Kuki Uma-no-jō Yoshitaka, boarded ships and entered Kanie Castle.
