《割書：当所の名物也／米団子（こめだんご）を木楼子（むくろじ）｜の大サに作（つく）り油（あぶら）にてあげたる菓子（くわし）｜なり其／色（いろ）赤（あか）ければ赤｜団子なるを今／略（りやく）して｜あかだといふ或説（あるせつ）に阿加（あか）｜陀（だ）は丸薬（ぐわんやく）の梵語（ぼんご）なるを｜こゝの売薬（ばいやく）の家にうりし｜丸薬の其形似たるをもて｜後世菓子の名に転（てん）ぜし｜などいへるは全く附会（ふくわゐ）なる｜べし》

（当所の名物なり。米団子を無患子の大きさに作り、油にて揚げたる菓子なり。その色赤ければ赤団子なるを、今略してあかだという。ある説に阿迦陀は丸薬の梵語なるを、ここの売薬の家に売りし丸薬のその形似たるをもて、後世菓子の名に転じしなどいえるは全く附会なるべし）

(This is a local specialty. Rice dumplings are made to the size of soapnuts and fried in oil to make confections. Because their color is red, they are called red dumplings, but now abbreviated to "akada." There is a theory that "akada" comes from the Sanskrit word for pills, and that because they resembled the pills sold by medicine dealers here, the name was later transferred to confections, but this is likely a completely contrived explanation.)
