現代語訳
昔から我が先君が景鐘を菅神の叢祠の南に創置して時を報じて以来、民が奮い立って働き、煕々として栄えてきた。その賢を仰ぎ、その利を享受する者は既に百余歳となる。皋々たる政治により、百姓は日々用いながらも自ら知らずにいる。宝暦癸未(十三年)十月六日、叢祠が濫炎の災いに遭い、県鐘ともに焼け、たちまち烏有に帰した。人々は皆初めてこれが最も欠けてはならないものであることを知った。
ここにおいて邦君は民事を重んじ、鋳造師に命じて改鋳させた。炉を脱して翼然として鉤のように懸けると、陰陽が相和して滞りも散逸もなく、侈弇がよく調和して窕でも摦でもなく、鏗号として響き渡り、徽音を継いで四境に暢達した。その声は嘽として緩やかで安らかで楽しく、国中の聞く者は訴々然として相慶び合って言った。「禹声と文声のどちらが先でどちらが後か、終日竟夕、民の収穫である」と。邦君は悦ばれた。蓋し徴角の律が相得たものである。これを「民の憂いに先んじて憂い、民の楽しみに後れて楽しむ」と謂う。
臣安貞は命を奉じ、謹んで丕績を紹復する所以の由を紀し、休祐を億齢に鳴らし、旧文の武に踵いで、銘辞をここに贅さないのである。

神宝:方丈仏間に安置されている十一面観音は唐仏の銅像である。また菅公十一歳の御時に書かれた梵網経、南化和尚自画讃の渡唐天神の像、康安元年に書かれた天神縁起一巻、その外古書画古仏像等が多い。
例祭:二月二十五日、神前に大般若を転読し、絵馬堂に神輿を飾る。この日、府下の寺子供等が我劣らじと大文字を書いて境内に張る事、隙間もないほどである。中でも甚だしいものは、あれほど高い鐘楼より地に及ぶほど紙をつないで、あるいは三字あるいは五字などを書いて参詣人の目を驚かせる。また祭日前後三日の間、府内及び遠近の村々より出て、本町通数町の内両側に植木を商う賑わい。盆鉢に植えた造り木、接ぎ木はもちろんのこと、大樹喬木をも厭わず車にて引き来たり立て並べた有様は、さながら山林に入るが如しである。
田中道麿居処碑:当寺の庭中にあり。
道麿は俗称田中庄兵衛、のち道全と号し、和学に長じて万葉集等の古書に通達した。美濃国多芸郡榛木村の人であるが、ここに移住して天明四年十月四日死去した。

Since ancient times, when our former lord first established the scenic bell south of the Kan-shin shrine cluster to announce the time, the people have been inspired to work diligently and prosper. Those who have revered its virtue and enjoyed its benefits now number over a hundred years. Through enlightened governance, the common people use it daily without conscious awareness. On the sixth day of the tenth month of Hōreki Mizunoto-Hitsuji (13th year), the shrine cluster suffered the disaster of raging flames, and both the suspended bell were consumed by fire, instantly becoming nothing. Only then did people realize this was the most indispensable thing.
Thereupon, our lord, valuing the people's affairs, commanded metalworkers to recast it. When removed from the furnace and suspended wing-like from its hook, yin and yang harmonized with neither stagnation nor dispersion, excess and deficiency were well balanced, neither too sharp nor too dull, resonating with a clear tone, continuing the fine sound to reach all four borders. Its voice was resonant yet gentle, peaceful and joyful, and all who heard it throughout the country celebrated together saying, "Which comes first and which follows between Yu's voice and Wen's voice? From dawn to dusk, this is the people's harvest." Our lord was pleased. Indeed, when the pitches of zhi and jue harmonize, this is called "worrying before the people's worries, and rejoicing after the people's joys."
Your subject Yasusada, following the command, respectfully records the reason for thus continuing and restoring the great achievement, proclaiming auspicious blessings for countless ages, following the military tradition of ancient culture, and not adding superfluous inscription words here.

Sacred Treasures: The Eleven-faced Kannon enshrined in the abbot's quarters is a bronze statue of Tang Buddhist origin. Also, the Brahmajāla Sūtra written when Lord Sugawara was eleven years old, an image of Tenjin crossing to Tang with self-painted inscription by Monk Nanka, the Tenjin Origin Record scroll written in Kōan first year, and many other ancient calligraphy, paintings, and Buddhist statues.
Annual Festival: On February 25th, the Great Prajñāpāramitā is chanted before the shrine, and portable shrines are displayed in the votive tablet hall. On this day, temple children from throughout the domain compete to write large characters and post them throughout the precincts until there is no space left. Among the most extreme examples, paper is joined from the top of the tall bell tower down to the ground, with three or five characters written to astonish the eyes of worshippers. Also, for three days before and after the festival day, people come from within the domain and from villages far and near to sell plants on both sides of several blocks of Honmachi Street in a bustling market. Not only potted plants and grafted trees in pots and bowls, but even large trees and tall timber are transported by cart and lined up, creating a scene just like entering a mountain forest.

Michimaro, commonly called Tanaka Shōbei, later took the name Dōzen. He excelled in Japanese learning and was well-versed in ancient texts such as the Man'yōshū. He was from Haruki Village in Tagi District of Mino Province, but moved here and died on October 4th of Tenmei 4th year.
