当社の祭礼は寛文・延宝の頃（1661-1681年）から始まったということで、「若宮祭巨細記」に記載されている。この黒船も最初は車や長持ちの上に船の形を作って、笛や太鼓のお囃子だけだったが、いつの間にか飾りも華麗になり、今では子供に申楽（猿楽）の舞を踊らせ、また所々で船歌を歌う。この山車が帰る時には多数の提灯を灯し、三味線や摺り鉦なども加えてお囃子をしながら引いてくる様子は、涼み船での船遊びのようで、実に夏の季節の一大見物である。

The festival of this shrine began around the Kanbun and Enpō eras (1661-1681), as recorded in the "Wakamiya Festival Detailed Records." This black ship float originally consisted of just a ship-shaped structure built on top of carts and storage chests, accompanied only by flutes and drums. However, over time the decorations became increasingly elaborate, and now children perform sarugaku (traditional comic theater) dances, and boat songs are sung at various locations. When this float returns, numerous lanterns are lit, and shamisen and gongs are added to the musical accompaniment as it is pulled along, resembling a pleasure boat outing on a cooling evening cruise—truly a magnificent summer spectacle.
