仏法の断を諸共に教へ又
龍宮世界に往ては妙法蓮華
経を説て龍神を導引
在けり何よりもさるときは往
古過去の世に文殊菩薩
池の辺起り給ひしに一人の
若き女池の端に立て身
を投げんとしけるを文殊
あやしみ給ひて其女の袖
を扣へ汝如何なる故に寄て
此池には身を投るそとたつね
給へは女答ていふやうわか夫
心定らす別の女を語らひ
自からを余所に見て日比
の情薄らき侍へり此うら
めしきいふはかりなし責めて
此池に身を投て大蛇と也
さし悪き男女を心の侭に
殺さむ為に身を投る也
と申す文殊聞しめし様
々になためて押止給へ
共此腹立胸のほむらは
更不止て止むに非らす
引放て池に入たりしを
文殊あはれみ給ひて手
に持たまへる法花経を投
打給ふ此経を女の身に触
たりける功徳に引れて
竜宮世界に生て娑竭
羅龍王の娘と成過去
の功徳深によりて更に三
熟の苦みもなく知恵
勝れて慈悲深く既に
八歳に成たり此折節釈尊
世に出給て法花経を時
給ふ時文殊其座より
龍宮に行給ひ昔の縁
熟しけれは彼八歳の龍
女か為に法花経を説教
給ふに龍女は知恵勝れ忽
に法花経の妙の道理を
悟て文殊と共に霊鷲
山に参りつゝ爰成男子
の利益に豫り南方無垢世
界に生なから往生し正覚

【四行目から】
仏法の教えを諸共に説き、また龍宮世界に赴いては妙法蓮華経を説いて龍神を導かれた。何よりも、そのような時、遥か昔の過去世において、文殊菩薩が池のほとりにいらっしゃった時のこと、一人の若い女が池の端に立って身を投げようとしているのを、文殊が不審に思われて、その女の袖を引き留め、「汝はいかなる理由でこの池に身を投げようとするのか」とお尋ねになった。女は答えて言うには、「私の夫は心が定まらず、他の女と語らい、私を疎んじて、日頃の愛情も薄くなってしまいました。この恨めしさは言葉では表せません。せめてこの池に身を投げて大蛇となり、憎い男女を思うままに殺そうと思い、身を投げるのです」と申した。文殊はこれをお聞きになり、様々になだめて押し止めなさったが、この怒りと胸の炎は決して止まることはなく、振り切って池に入ってしまった。文殊は哀れに思われ、手に持っておられた法華経を投げ入れなさった。この経が女の身に触れた功徳によって導かれ、龍宮世界に生まれて娑竭羅龍王の娘となった。過去の功徳が深いことにより、三悪道の苦しみもなく、知恵に優れ慈悲深く、既に八歳になった。この時、釈尊が世にお出ましになって法華経をお説きになる時、文殊がその座から龍宮にお赴きになり、昔の縁が熟したので、かの八歳の龍女のために法華経を説教なさった。龍女は知恵に優れ、たちまち法華経の妙なる道理を悟り、文殊と共に霊鷲山に参り、ここで男子となる利益を得て、南方無垢世界に生まれながらにして往生し、正覚を得た。

[From the fourth line]
[Manjushri] taught the Buddhist teachings together with others, and when he went to the Dragon Palace world, he preached the Lotus Sutra and guided the dragon deities. Above all, in such times, long ago in a past life, when Manjushri Bodhisattva was by a pond, he saw a young woman standing at the edge of the pond trying to throw herself in. Manjushri, finding this strange, caught the woman's sleeve and asked, "For what reason do you seek to throw yourself into this pond?" The woman answered, "My husband's heart is not constant, he speaks with other women and looks upon me with disdain, and his affection has grown thin. This resentment is beyond words. At least by throwing myself into this pond and becoming a great serpent, I will kill those hateful men and women as I please." Manjushri heard this and tried in various ways to console and restrain her, but the anger and flames in her breast would never cease. She broke free and entered the pond. Manjushri took pity and threw the Lotus Sutra he held in his hand into the water. Through the merit of this sutra touching the woman's body, she was guided to be reborn in the Dragon Palace world and became the daughter of the Dragon King Sagara. Due to her deep past merit, she suffered none of the torments of the three evil paths, was superior in wisdom and deep in compassion, and was already eight years old. At this time, when the Buddha appeared in the world and preached the Lotus Sutra, Manjushri went from that assembly to the Dragon Palace, and as the ancient karmic connection had ripened, he preached the Lotus Sutra for that eight-year-old dragon girl. The dragon girl, being superior in wisdom, immediately understood the wondrous principles of the Lotus Sutra, went with Manjushri to Vulture Peak, gained here the benefit of becoming a male, and while being born in the Southern Pure World, achieved rebirth and perfect enlightenment.
