【上段】
○獺（カワウソ）は水中に住む。
四足ともに短い。色は
青黒い。魚を捕って
食べる。水気や脹満
を治す。多食してはいけない。
○貂（テン）は鼠の仲間で
大きく、黄黒色
である。毛が深くて
温かい。帽子や
襟にして寒気を防
ぐ。一般に栗鼠と書く。
○鼯（ムササビ）は小狐のようで
肉翅は蝙蝠に似ている。
脚は短く尾の長
さは三尺ばかり。声は人が
呼ぶようで、火煙を
食べる。高い所から低い
所に向かう。低い所から
高い所に上ることは
できない。
○鼲（テン）は鼠の仲間
である。皮で毛皮の衣服を作る
ことができる。別名は礼鼠。
○海狗（カイク）は膃肭臍（オットセイ）
である。形は狐に似て
尾は魚である。身に
青白い毛があり、また
青黒い点がある。

を治す。

[Upper section]
○The otter lives in water.
All four legs are short. Its color is
blue-black. It catches and
eats fish. It treats water retention and
abdominal distension. One should not eat too much of it.
○The marten is of the mouse family,
large, and yellow-black
in color. Its fur is thick and
warm. It is used for hats and
collars to ward off cold. Commonly
written as "chestnut mouse."
○The flying squirrel is like a small fox,
its flesh wings resemble those of a bat.
Its legs are short and its tail is
about three shaku long. Its voice is like
a person calling, and it eats
fire and smoke. It goes from high
places to low places. It cannot
climb from low places
