○鳲鳩（かつこ）は色褐（いろかう）にして
三月 穀雨（こくう）の後（のち）はじめ
てなく食（しよく）すれは神（しん）を
安（やすん）ず又つゝ鳥（とり）といふ有
是（これ）も鳩（はと）の類（たぐひ）にて三月
の頃（ころ）なく声（こゑ）を聞（きゝ）て豆（まめ）を
まくといへり
○鴿（いへばと）は堂塔（たうたう）に多（おゝ）く
あつまり住（すむ）はとなり
精（せい）をとゝのへ気（き）を益（ます）悪（あく）
瘡（さう）を治（ぢす）薬毒（やくどく）を解（げ）す

現代語訳
【上段】
○鳲鳩（カッコウ）は色が褐色で、
三月の穀雨の後に初めて
鳴く。食べると精神を
安定させる。またツツドリともいう。これ
も鳩の仲間で三月
頃に鳴く声を聞いて豆を
蒔くといわれている。
○鴿（イエバト）は堂塔に多く
集まって住む鳩である。
精気を整え気力を増し、悪性の
腫瘍を治し薬毒を解毒する。
多く食べてはいけない。
○鶇（ツグミ）はヒヨドリほどの大きさで、
羽色は茶色をしている。
年の暮れにこれを食べる。
味は良い。
○鵙（モズ）はヒヨドリより少し小さく、
茶色で頭は鷹の
ようで小鳥を追い肉食する。
小児の言葉が遅い時に、モズの
止まった枝で打つとよい。

○The Shikyu (cuckoo) is brown in color,
and first begins to sing after Kokuu (Grain Rain) in the third month.
When eaten, it calms
the spirit. It is also called Tsutsu-dori. This
is also a member of the dove family, and it is said that people
sow beans upon hearing its call
around the third month.
○The Gau (domestic pigeon) is a pigeon that often
gathers and lives in halls and pagodas.
It regulates vital energy, increases vigor, treats malignant
sores, and neutralizes medicinal poisons.
One should not eat too much of it.
○The Tou (thrush) is about the size of a bulbul,
with brown feather coloring.
People eat this at the end of the year.
The taste is good.
