現代語訳
【上段】
○画眉（ホオジロ）は畫鶥鳥（カワビチョウ）
である。形は雀ほどで、
羽色も似ている。頬が白く
黒い毛がある。
○鶖（カシドリ）はヒヨドリより大きく、
翼に青く縁取りされた黒い
星のような斑点がある羽を持つ。秋の終わり
から冬月にやって来て鳴く。
○杜鵑（ホトトギス）はヒヨドリより大きく、
黄黒色で口が赤い。
四五月頃の夜陰に
鳴く。杜宇、子規と同じである。
○鵯（ヒヨドリ）は鸜鵒である。
また哵哵鳥ともいう。
身体も頭も薄い
ねずみ色に黒い斑がある。
様々な木の実を食べる。
秋冬に多くやって来る。
○鶺鴒（セキレイ）は嘴が細く
尾が長い。飛ぶときは鳴き、
止まっているとき尾を動かす。
羽が白く背が黒いものをセグロ
といい、青く黄色いものを
キセキレイという。

英語訳
[Upper section]
○The Gawabi (bunting) is the Kawabichou (painted bunting).
Its form is about the size of a sparrow,
and its feather coloring is similar. Its cheeks are white
with black hair.
○The Kashidori (jay) is larger than the bulbul,
with wings having blue-edged black
star-like spots on its feathers. It comes from the end of autumn
through the winter months and calls.
○The Token (cuckoo) is larger than the bulbul,
yellow-black in color with a red mouth.
It calls in the night darkness
around the fourth and fifth months. It is the same as Tou and Shiki.
○The Hi (bulbul) is the Kuyoku.
It is also called Hahachou.
Both body and head are light
mouse-colored with black spots.
It eats the fruits of various trees.
Many come in autumn and winter.
○The Sekirei (wagtail) has a thin beak
and a long tail. When flying it calls,
when perched it moves its tail.
Those with white feathers and black backs are called Seguro,
and those that are blue and yellow are
called Kisekirei.
