【上段】
○鹿（シカ）は馬のよう
だが小さい。
頭が長く、脚が細く
高い。雄は角があり、
夏至に落ちる。雌は
角がない。6月に
子を産む。
好んで亀を食べる。
秋の終わりになると
鳴き声を発する。
虚労を治し、
腰を温め、あらゆる
病気に効果がある。
○麑（カノコ）は鹿の

鹿に似て小さく、

[Upper section]
○The deer is like
a horse but smaller.
Its head is long, its legs are thin
and tall. Males have antlers that
fall off at the summer solstice. Females
have no antlers. They give birth
to young in June.
They prefer to eat turtles.
At the end of autumn they
make their calls.
They cure consumptive diseases,
warm the lower back, and are
beneficial for all kinds
of illnesses.
○The fawn is a young
deer.
○The roe deer lives in the mountains in autumn and winter,
and in marshes in spring and summer.
It resembles a deer but is smaller
and has no antlers. It is yellowish-black in color.
Males have tusks.
○The elk resembles a deer but is
blue-black in color. Its size is like
a small cow. It has
two holes below its eyes, called
"night eyes."
○The serow resembles a sheep,
is blue in color and large.
Its horns are thin with patterns,
like human fingers. They are
4 to 5 sun long. The hide is taken
to make bedding.
