一、同月、この節病気に罹っていた所、江戸から帰着後、お刀をお下し置かれるおつもりでいらっしゃったが、病気につきお見合わせになっていた。然るところ病気が長引いてしまったので、息子を名代としてお下し置かれる段を、息子の志摩へお次の間においてお申し聞かせがあり、志摩が御前にお召し出しになられた節、右の御書付をご宣読の上お渡しになり、お刀を御手ずからお下し置かれ候事

この度御内用につき出府し、深く後年をも計り、内実申し立て方については、あれこれと心を尽くし格別に辛労をし、かつ去冬以来世間も押し返し早急に帰登し、老年にて別して大儀に候。これにより刀一腰を取らせ候事

1. In the same month, while he was suffering from illness at this time, after returning from Edo, there was an intention to bestow a sword upon him, but this was postponed due to his illness. However, as the illness became prolonged, it was decided to bestow it through his son as representative. This matter was communicated to his son Shima in the antechamber, and when Shima was summoned before his lordship, the written document was read aloud and presented, and the sword was personally bestowed by his lordship's own hand.

"This time, having gone to the capital for internal affairs, deeply considering future years, and regarding the presentation of confidential matters, you have devoted your heart and made exceptional efforts through various means. Moreover, since last winter, with the world in turmoil, you returned hastily, and at your advanced age, this was particularly arduous. Therefore, one sword is hereby granted."
1. In the eighth month of the same year, through a retainer, an inquiry about his illness was graciously made.
Note: The personal physician Kojima Sōetsu is assigned to treat Saburōbei's illness, so he is temporarily excused from guard duties and ordered to provide attending medical treatment.
