現代語訳
小性として会津で三百石で勤め、普請奉行を勤めていたところ、式部少輔明成公が没落した際に浪人となり、その村へ引き込んで住んでいた。その時の苗字は分からない。隠居後に剃髪したという。もっとも系図等も所持していたというが、享保年中に紛失したと言い伝えられているのみである。この宗元が持っていた槍は肥前兼広の銘があるもので、今も所持している。
一 承応年中に町役所の物書に召し出され、数役を五十年余りお奉公したということであるが、勤務記録が伝わっておらず、詳細な事情は不明である。
一 宝永四年亥年八月二十九日に八十余歳で病死。法名は広岳院釈種一応宗伯居士、葬所は同上。

He served as a page (kosho) in Aizu with a stipend of 300 koku and worked as a construction magistrate (fushin-bugyō). When Lord Shikibu-shōyū Akinari fell from power, he became a rōnin and withdrew to live in that village. His surname at that time is unknown. After retirement, he shaved his head and became a monk. Although he supposedly possessed genealogical records and such, they were lost during the Kyōhō era, according to oral tradition only. The spear that this Sōgen possessed bears the signature of Hizen Kanehiro and is still in the family's possession today.
1. During the Jōō era, he was summoned to serve as a scribe at the town office and served in various roles for over fifty years, but since no service records have been passed down, the details remain unclear.
1. He died of illness on the 29th day of the 8th month of Hōei 4, Year of the Boar, at the age of over eighty. His Buddhist name was Kōgakuin Shakushu Ichiō Sōhaku Koji, buried at the same place as mentioned above.
