【五十蔵は一切り五十文の私娼。それをハーフタイムで買ったので二十四文、一文はたぶんオマケ。おそらく狐は犬に驚いて報酬を取らずに逃げてしまい、五十蔵のあたりからは現実。二十四文で女の子二人分なので得だと言っている】

現代語訳
あれも人の子である。樽拾い（丁稚奉公）も楽しみたい、踊りたいというのは誰でも持っているものだ。御用一生の思い出にと十二文を持って来た。
場所はどことも決めていないが、切見世の様子をあちらこちらと覗いているうち、雪かと見間違うほどの白いものが恋しくてたまらないと上がれば、店の若い主が呼びに来たので、仕方なく「今に来るから待っていてください」と内へ帰り、用を済ませるとまた駆け出して行きながら、三丁目の明かりを向こうが忍び家に消せば、犬の声で狐がばさばさと逃げる。
五十蔵を半分価で二十四文の得をする。
「こう、兄さんよ、寄って来なよ」

お鈴殿の宿で、帰りのついでに五十文はずめば、四つ紅葉のかんざしに飛び色びろうどの腰帯の紋付けを見ると、震え杖でも紋一つ二十四文ずつのを結び渡しとますを二つ買い開けば、本くじは三つ出て「うう、くやしい」と思えば鼻に出て、百取るとは五十の得である。
金のかんざしと見えたのは馬の骨。
「本当に昨夜の夢に梅川忠兵衛を見たっけ」

At Orin-dono's lodging, on the way back, if he bet fifty mon, with a four-maple hairpin and a flying-colored silk obi with family crests - seeing this, even with a trembling cane, each crest cost twenty-four mon. Buying and opening two lottery boxes, three winning tickets came out. Thinking "Ugh, how frustrating!" it showed on his face, but getting a hundred was a profit of fifty.
What appeared to be a golden hairpin was just horse bone.
