現代語訳
折助（武家に仕える下僕）のような風体の者が二十四文を持って来た。座敷の様子はたちまちに賑やかな町の景色となった。
まず八文で湯に入り、下駄をぐっと磨いて両国をぶらつき、先祖のためと一文で鰻を一匹放生し、浅草へ来て、釣りの三文で飴を買い食いながら道場を回り、裏門から素見に出かけた。

十二文でとうもろこしの付け焼きを一生の楽しみにして、吉原をぶらつくうち日は暮れる。腹は減るが仕方なく、精進蕎麦を食おうにも、耳垢ほどもなければ（金がなければ）、二十四文の得。
英語訳
A person with the appearance of an Orisuke (a low-ranking servant to a samurai family) came with twenty-four mon. The parlor scene immediately became like a bustling townscape.
First, he entered the bathhouse for eight mon, polished his geta thoroughly, strolled around Ryōgoku, released an eel for one mon as an offering for his ancestors, came to Asakusa, bought candy with three mon from fishing, and while eating it went around the dōjō (training halls), then went out for soken (window shopping/browsing without buying) through the back gate.

With twelve mon, he made grilled corn on the cob a lifelong pleasure, and while wandering around Yoshiwara, the day grew dark. Though his stomach rumbled, having no choice, he wanted to eat vegetarian soba, but having not even the amount of earwax (no money), it was a gain of twenty-four mon.
