此証風寒食 傷（しやう）等にまぎるゝゆへ薬（くすり）は升麻葛根湯（せうまかつこんとう）加
減（げん）敗毒（はいとく）散を用て汗を出さしむれば熱解して痘出る也

○問うて言うには、初心の者は痘瘡の期日を知らない。どのようにしたらよいであろうか。
答えて言うには、おおよそ日限は三日ずつを一定候として、三・五・十五日を大法とする。十候を立てるものもあり、左に記す。

発熱（ほとほり・三日） 一つに序病とも言う
この症状は風寒食傷等と紛らわしいため、薬は升麻葛根湯加減、敗毒散を用いて汗を出させれば熱が解けて痘瘡が出る。
ただし看法（診断法）がある。手の中指、耳の輪、鼻の頭、尻の尖り、足の指が冷える、あるいは頭痛、腰痛、腹痛、吐逆、煩熱が甚だしいこともある。小児は搐搦（ひきつけ）、客忤（驚き）、天吊（ひきつけ）をする。大人はただ煩熱、頭痛、腰脚がだるく煩疼（いらいらした痛み）が多い。左の一つの処方は私の先考（亡父）が多く用いて効果を得られたため、ここに載せる。

Answer: Generally, the time limits are set with three days as one fixed stage, with 3, 5, and 15 days as the great method. Some establish ten stages, which are recorded on the left.

Fever onset (hothori - three days) - also called preliminary illness
This symptom resembles wind-cold food injury and others, so using medicines like Shoma-kakkon-to with modifications or Haidoku-san to induce sweating will resolve the fever and bring out the smallpox.
However, there are diagnostic methods. The middle finger of the hand, ear rim, tip of nose, tip of buttocks, and toes become cold, or there may be severe headache, back pain, abdominal pain, vomiting, and irritating fever. Children experience convulsions, fright reactions, and upward-gazing spasms. Adults mainly have irritating fever, headache, and aching fatigue in the lower back and legs with irritating pain. The following prescription was frequently used by my late father with good results, so I include it here.
Sochen Decoction: Perilla leaves, Tangerine peel, Luffa (each in equal parts)
