京畿の小児はレンゲバナと言う
筑紫ではテホウゾウ花という
武州の俗称は蓮華草という
歳時記では五形とする

救荒本草では砕米薺として
その形について述べていないが、図に示されるものは今いうところの
蓮華の花に似ている。そもそも砕米
薺という名の意味は未だ解明されていない。本草
一家言では紫花地丁の
別名を砕米薺とするが、これは異なる植物である。

本草において
野菊（ヤキク）また苦意（グイ）、
これは春菊であると述べており、薺蒿（セイコウ）の
野菊ではないというが、この説は
誤りである。野菊は秋に小さな黄色い
花を開かせる。同蒿は春に花を開かせ、菊に
似ているので、そのように名付けられている。花葉の
形は大いに異なるのである。

In the Jiuhuang Bencao (Famine Relief Herbal), the Suiheisei
does not describe its form, but the plant illustrated there resembles
what we now call the lotus flower. In any case, the
meaning of the name "Suiheisei" has not yet been explained. In the Bencao
Yijiayan, it states that Zihualudīng is
also called Suiheisei, but these are different plants.

The author states:
In the Bencao (herbals), it is said that
Yakiku (wild chrysanthemum), also called Kui,
is the same as Shungiku, and is not
the wild chrysanthemum of Seikō. However, this view is
incorrect. The wild chrysanthemum blooms with small yellow
flowers in autumn. Tōkō (Shungiku) blooms in spring with flowers resembling
chrysanthemum, hence its name. The shapes of the flowers and leaves
are greatly different.
