---

## 【YUSURA-UME (Nanking Cherry / *Prunus tomentosa*, or a related member of the Rosaceae family)】
From *Wamyō Ruijushō* [Japanese Names Classified Dictionary]:
**Zhū yīng** [Red Cherry] (Hahaka / Niwa-sakura)
From the *Honzō* [Materia Medica]: Yīng pái — alternate name: Zhū yīng (Red Cherry).
Japanese name: Hahaka; alternatively called Niwa-sakura (Nihabakura).
Cherry blossom flower: Niwa-zakura (Niwazakura)
In *Yamato Honzō*, this character is rendered as "Yutsura."
---
From *Kankai Shokkyō* [Pocket Compendium of Foods]:
One explanation reads this as *Yusura*, saying it resembles the mountain cherry-peach (*Prunus tomentosa*) and is read as *Niwa-sakura*; another reading gives *Niwa-ume*. These three things are largely similar in form, with only slight differences. However, their species classifications are very closely aligned.
---
From *Zōho Tashikihen* [Expanded Identification Compendium], Mountain Fruits section:
**Yīng táo** [Cherry] (Ōtō) Japanese name: Niwasaku-ra (Niwazakura)
Alternative names: Hán táo (Kantō) [from *Yueling* / Monthly Ordinances]; Jīng huā (Keika)
Additional alternative names: Yīng táo (Ōtō / Warbler Peach) [from *Lǐjì zhù* / Commentary on the Rites]
This alternative name also appears under the entry for "Yīng táo (Yutsura)" in the *Wakan Sansai Zue* [Japanese-Chinese Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Three Powers].
Copied true-to-life around the twentieth day of the third month (Kōshun), Mizunoe-Uma year.
---
From *Wakan Sansai Zue* [Japanese-Chinese Illustrated Encyclopedia], Mountain Fruits section:
**Mountain Cherry-Peach** (Niwa-sakura) — also known as: Lěi yīng [Coming-Spring Cherry], Mài yīng dòu [Wheat Cherry-Bean], Lǐ táo [Plum-Peach]; commonly called *Niwa-zakura* in the vernacular.
(There is also a separate plant called *Niwa-ume* [Garden Plum], to be depicted in a later volume.)
【Seal: Fruit Tree Category】
In *Yamato Honzō*,
Mountain Cherry-Peach (Niwa-sakura)
is also separately listed
as "Cherry-Peach Flower."
Copied directly on the twenty-seventh day of the latter ten days of the third month (Kōsen), Mizunoto-Hitsuji year (Bunsei 6, 1823).

(Enmei-sō / Life-Extending Herb) — Hikiokoshi
